PureHealth Launches AI-Driven National Diagnostic Lab in Abu Dhabi
New AI-Powered Diagnostic Facility
PureHealth has officially launched its flagship AI-driven diagnostic facility, designed to enhance the national diagnostic services landscape in the UAE. Operated by its subsidiary, PureLab, this innovative facility aims to leverage advanced technology to improve healthcare delivery across the region.
The state-of-the-art lab spans 70,000 square feet and is engineered to implement AI-driven automation, ensuring real-time quality control while integrating seamlessly with a network of over 140 accredited laboratories. This cutting-edge facility is poised to process more than 30 million samples annually, equipped with built-in capacity for future expansion. Such developments are crucial to meet the increasing demand for sophisticated diagnostic capabilities within the UAE.
AI-Integrated Healthcare Solutions
Dr. Fayeza Saif Alyafei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Department of Health, remarked on the significance of the facility: “The launch of PureLab’s AI-powered Lab represents a major advancement in Abu Dhabi’s vision for a smart, integrated, and patient-centered healthcare system.”
She added, “As the regulator, we are committed to fostering innovation and enabling high-impact investments that enhance diagnostic accuracy, accelerate care delivery, and improve health outcomes.” By integrating AI intelligence, robotics, and energy-efficient infrastructure, the lab operates 24/7, marking a new era in the region’s healthcare services.
The AI-powered Lab features a comprehensive range of over 1,800 test parameters across diverse specialties. Areas of focus include anatomic pathology, molecular genetics, hematopathology, histocompatibility for organ and bone marrow transplants, infectious disease detection, and environmental testing. Additionally, routine clinical pathology services cover chemistry, immunoassay, serology, coagulation, and microbiology.
Commitment to Advanced Diagnostic Practices
To ensure efficient operations, the laboratory is supported by a multidisciplinary team of 1,300 expert consultants specializing in clinical operations and laboratory management. This robust workforce underscores a patient- and clinician-centric model aimed at enhancing diagnostic accuracy and ensuring data confidentiality.
Arindam Haldar, CEO of PureLab, emphasized the facility’s vital role, stating, “Established as the UAE’s core facility, it will serve as a national cornerstone for essential health programs, including newborn screening, infectious disease monitoring, and transplant compatibility.” This commitment signifies a strategic initiative to reinforce the UAE’s healthcare system through advanced diagnostic practices.
Innovative Technologies in Pathology
At the heart of the facility’s technological advancements lies an AI-powered digital pathology platform utilizing Whole Slide Imaging (WSI). This technology transforms traditional slides into high-resolution digital images, enabling rapid AI-assisted analysis of disease markers and anomalies.
The lab also connects oncology centers across the nation, facilitating real-time remote slide viewing and virtual consultations. This innovative approach accelerates clinical decision-making, ensuring timely interventions and improved patient outcomes.
Sustainability and Community Engagement
In alignment with global sustainability goals, the facility incorporates several eco-friendly features. These include a fully hybrid transport fleet, energy-efficient window films, paperless digital reporting, and rooftop solar panels, all supporting the UAE’s commitment to a net-zero emissions strategy.
Healthcare providers can benefit from a unified, cost-effective platform to submit a wide range of tests, thus minimizing dependence on multiple laboratories. Furthermore, the lab is positioned to support community-based diagnostics through walk-in services and pilot programs for home testing, enhancing accessibility for patients.
Overall, the launch of PureHealth’s AI-powered Lab in Abu Dhabi marks a significant step toward the integration of advanced technologies in healthcare, poised to transform diagnostic processes and improve health outcomes across the UAE.
