SEE Holding and KAEC Partner to Develop Sustainable Communities in Saudi Arabia

MoU Signed to Enhance Urban Sustainability

SEE Holding, known for its commitment to sustainability through The Sustainable City brand, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). This partnership is aimed at developing sustainable, mixed-use communities in one of Saudi Arabia’s flagship giga projects.

The agreement was formalized between Dr. Muawieh Radaideh, Group CEO of SEE Holding, and Abdulaziz Al Nowaiser, CEO of Emaar, The Economic City (EEC), during the Cityscape Global event in Riyadh. This initiative represents a significant step forward in promoting sustainable urban living within the kingdom.

A Vision for Sustainable Communities

The collaboration outlined in the MoU will focus on introducing the innovative model of The Sustainable City to the Red Sea region. Envisioned as a comprehensive community framework, the initiative aims to integrate residential, commercial, and communal spaces while minimizing environmental harm and improving overall quality of life.

The proposed development will feature components such as local food production, clean energy generation, advanced waste management systems, and smart mobility solutions. These elements are designed with a primary goal of enhancing self-sufficiency and sustainability within the communities.

Insights from Leadership

Eng. Faris Saeed, Founder and Chairman of SEE Holding, articulated the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development. He stated, “We believe that the successful replication and rapid growth of sustainable developments worldwide require strong partnerships and collaborations among like-minded stakeholders.”

He emphasized that Saudi Arabia is a dynamic market for urban sustainability. “Our partnership with KAEC will contribute to a national transformation that advances quality of life, drives economic diversification, and accelerates progress toward Vision 2030,” added Saeed.

In response, Abdulaziz Al Nowaiser, CEO of EEC, highlighted the importance of this partnership for KAEC’s future. “This partnership marks the next step in KAEC’s journey to become a thriving, future-ready city. By collaborating with SEE Holding, we are accelerating the development of sustainable communities that enhance quality of life, attract investment, and create new opportunities.”

Proven Experience in Sustainable Development

SEE Holding brings over two decades of expertise in sustainable urban development to the table, having successfully implemented The Sustainable City model in various locations including Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat (Yiti). This model is globally recognized as a standard for low-carbon, future-oriented communities.

Key differentiators of The Sustainable City model include its focus on clean energy utilization, urban farming initiatives, effective waste recycling processes, and sustainable transportation options. These features support both national and global climate goals, including ambitions set by international agreements like the Paris Agreement, targeting significant emissions reductions by 2050.

Commitment to Quality of Life

The partnership is set to draw on best practices in urban planning to create spaces that enhance the well-being of residents while prioritizing environmental stewardship. The development at KAEC will invite innovations designed to encourage community interactions, promote a healthier lifestyle, and support local economies.

In light of this agreement, both SEE Holding and KAEC are poised to make significant contributions to the ongoing discourse on sustainability in urban environments. The focus remains firmly on cultivating a future where communities thrive without compromising ecological integrity.

Future-Ready Approach to Urban Living

The Sustainable City aims to serve as more than just a residential area; it is envisioned as a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters economic growth while addressing pressing challenges related to climate change and urbanization. The collaboration with KAEC underscores a mutual commitment to advancing sustainable practices that can serve as a model for other regions.

By harnessing the expertise and resources of both organizations, this initiative is anticipated to set a new standard for integrated, environmentally responsible urban development in the region.
