Sharjah Approves $41 Million Traffic Plan to Ease Major Road Congestion
New Road Projects for Enhanced Traffic Flow
Sharjah has initiated two significant road development projects estimated at a total of AED150 million ($40.8 million) aimed at improving traffic flow and mitigating congestion. These initiatives reflect the emirate’s commitment to supporting urban growth and enhancing infrastructure.

Upgrading the Sharjah Ring Road
The first project entails upgrading a 5-kilometer section of the Sharjah Ring Road, particularly near the upcoming Etihad Rail station, with an expected budget of AED90 million ($24.5 million). This upgrade is crucial for alleviating congestion along Mleiha Road, a vital thoroughfare within the emirate.
In addition to the road improvements, the project will expand the University City Bridge by adding four lanes—two in each direction. This expansion is designed to enhance connectivity toward Rakan Bridge, thereby streamlining traffic in this densely populated area.
Constructing a New Bridge
The second initiative involves the construction of a new bridge adjacent to the Martyrs’ Monument, with a projected cost of AED60 million ($16.3 million). This new infrastructure will create a direct route for vehicles traveling from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road. Moreover, it aims to facilitate traffic flowing from Sheikh Khalifa Street to Mleiha Road.
