Sheikh Mohammed Launches Dubai’s Floating Museum of Art

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unveiled the Dubai Museum of Art (DUMA), a striking architectural project designed by acclaimed Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Known for his innovative use of natural light and geometric forms, Ando’s design for DUMA will allow the five-story structure to appear as if it is floating above Dubai Creek, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscape.
“He stated, ‘Culture and art are the soul of a city and a lens through which its progress is seen,’ emphasizing the importance of the museum in showcasing Dubai’s cultural narrative. This ambitious project is poised to enhance the city’s vibrant arts scene and bolster its standing on the global cultural stage.

Ando, a Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate, is renowned for his minimalist concrete structures that harmonize with their natural surroundings. His previous notable works include the Chichu Art Museum in Japan and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Texas.

The design of DUMA reflects the confluence of traditional local culture and contemporary architectural practices.
