Launch of SIGA Asia in Dubai
The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) has officially unveiled SIGA Asia during the inaugural Sport Integrity Forum Asia, held in Dubai. This event was organized in collaboration with local sports authorities, aiming to enhance sport integrity initiatives throughout Asia. As a vital continental branch of SIGA, alongside its counterparts in America, Europe, and Latin America, SIGA Asia is set to lead integrity efforts across the region.
Appointment of Advisory Board Chair
In a significant development, H.E. Yousef Al Serkal has been appointed as the Chair of the SIGA Asia Advisory Board. A prominent figure in sports administration, Al Serkal brings decades of experience to this role. His illustrious career includes positions such as President of the UAE General Sports Authority, the UAE Football Association, and Vice-President of the Asian Football Confederation.
Commitment to Sport Integrity
At the launch event, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Co-Founder and Global CEO of SIGA, expressed his gratitude to Al Serkal for accepting the advisory role. He stated, “Your Excellency Yousef Al Serkal, you and I have shared many journeys over the years… I am extremely honored that you have accepted my invitation to be the Chairman of the Advisory Board of SIGA Asia.”
In response, Al Serkal pledged his dedication to promoting sport integrity in the region, remarking, “I am honored to accept this mission. Dubai is the ideal launchpad for SIGA Asia… Together, we will place Sport Integrity at the heart of the region’s priorities.”
Vision for SIGA Asia
Macedo de Medeiros underscored the importance of establishing SIGA Asia now, emphasizing the need for integrity in sports governance. He articulated, “Why SIGA Asia, why Dubai, why now? Because integrity cannot wait. Because leadership demands action. With the establishment of SIGA Asia, we are not just launching an organization; we are launching a movement.”
SIGA Asia aims to promote good governance, ethical leadership, and regional capacity building through education, training, and certification. The initiative will also foster collaboration among government entities, businesses, and sports organizations, and focus on empowering women and youth.
Goals and Strategic Vision
SIGA Asia, envisioned as a pillar of integrity in sports governance, is committed to leveraging Dubai’s strategic position between East and West. Over the next three years, the organization plans to establish a Regional Integrity and Leadership Institute, becoming the go-to reference for integrity and good governance in the region.
The agenda aligns with broader UAE goals for 2031, emphasizing innovation and sustainable progress through integrity in sports. With a focus on transparency, SIGA Asia intends to strengthen credibility, attract investment, and create opportunities for athletes and organizations throughout Asia.
