‘Sing for the Nation’ national tour kicks off November 7, celebrating Eid Al Etihad across four UAE cities

‘Sing for the Nation,’ a celebrated musical event, is set to return with a national tour beginning November 7, 2023, in Abu Dhabi. This year, the UAE National Orchestra expands its reach, performing across four cities in honor of Eid Al Etihad. The tour aims to unite audiences through patriotic songs that resonate deeply within the collective memory of the UAE, making it a significant cultural celebration.

The inaugural edition of ‘Sing for the Nation’ took place at Dubai Opera in May 2022, drawing over 1,400 attendees from more than 50 nationalities. The enthusiastic participation inspired the orchestra to broaden the event’s scope, allowing more communities to engage in this national celebration. As Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of State and Chairperson of the Board of the UAE National Orchestra, stated, “Love for our nation is a bond we all share, and music gives that bond a voice.”

Tour Schedule and Locations

The tour will kick off at The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi on November 7, followed by performances at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain on November 20, Fujairah Cultural Center on November 28, and concluding at Ras Al Khaimah Cultural Center on December 1. The outdoor setting in Al Ain, particularly at a historic site, enhances the experience, allowing audiences to connect with the nation’s heritage while celebrating its musical legacy.

A Celebration of National Identity

Each performance will feature a selection of beloved songs, including ‘Allah Ya Dar Zayed’ and ‘Sawfa Nahmi Al Ittihad,’ which reflect the UAE’s journey since its formation. The program also includes ‘Rijal Wallah Rijal,’ a tribute to those who protect the nation, based on a poem by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The orchestral arrangements aim to preserve the original spirit of these songs while adding a fresh musical dimension.

Engaging the Next Generation

This season’s tour will also spotlight young Emirati talent, with students participating through the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge’s Nabati Poetry initiative. This program immerses students in Emirati poetic heritage, allowing them to perform alongside the National Orchestra and Choir. Their involvement not only showcases their talents but also emphasizes the importance of cultural transmission from one generation to the next.

As Sheikha Alia bint Khalid Al Qassimi, Managing Director of the UAE National Orchestra, noted, the initiative reflects a commitment to preserving the nation’s musical and cultural traditions. The students will perform patriotic songs and poems, enriching the concert experience and reinforcing their connection to the UAE’s heritage.

Conclusion

‘Sing for the Nation’ promises to be more than just a concert; it is a communal celebration that invites audiences to participate actively. With its blend of history, culture, and music, the tour is poised to strengthen national pride and unity as the UAE prepares to celebrate Eid Al Etihad.
