UAE Residents Share Personal Connections to Pledge Initiative, Celebrating National Unity and Leadership
Dubai: The UAE’s Pledge and Commitment initiative, launched on May 19 by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, has resonated deeply with residents. This online initiative, designed to foster appreciation for the leadership of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, allows participants to express their gratitude for the country’s commitment to national security, social cohesion, and stability.
Many residents have described signing the pledge as a moment of reflection on the opportunities and sense of belonging they have found in the UAE.
Personal Reflections on the Pledge
Errol Gonsalves, a 39-year-old media professional and content creator, emphasized the significance of living in Dubai. He stated that his loyalty to the city is rooted in a profound trust in its leadership and a genuine affection for the nation. Gonsalves likened the UAE to a university for life skills, noting that it has taught him to dream, grow stronger, and appreciate life.
He remarked on the leadership’s forward-thinking mindset, stating, “This country’s leadership is ahead of everyone. Most importantly, the leadership has a winning mindset – they always want to be the best.” Gonsalves, who moved to the UAE four years ago, expressed gratitude for the opportunities available to him, saying that living in Dubai makes it difficult to envision life elsewhere.
A Sense of Belonging
Mohamed Salim Allawi, a 46-year-old Egyptian communications consultant, also shared his personal connection to the pledge. Having lived in the UAE for 22 years, he described the country as his home, where he has built his career and formed lasting relationships with people from diverse backgrounds. Allawi expressed that the pledge allowed him to convey his gratitude and solidarity with the UAE’s leadership.
He highlighted the leadership’s ambition and commitment to the future, stating, “This leadership motivates me to think bigger, plan ahead, and contribute positively to society.” Allawi feels fortunate to reside in a nation that consistently strives for excellence and innovation.
Opportunities for Growth
Saher Suthriwala, a 25-year-old digital marketing freelancer born and raised in Dubai, echoed similar sentiments. She expressed her inability to imagine calling any other place home, attributing her personal growth to the opportunities available in the UAE. Suthriwala noted that safety is a significant factor that has encouraged many to sign the pledge.
She highlighted the emergence of new career options, particularly in content creation, as a result of the UAE’s dynamic environment. “There is a real sense of community. We prefer supporting the new, smaller businesses instead of the bigger global brands,” she stated. Suthriwala’s journey began as an intern, eventually leading her to freelancing, which she found accessible due to the supportive infrastructure in the UAE.
Continuous Inspiration
Reflecting on her experiences as a lifelong resident, Suthriwala shared her observations of Dubai’s development over the years. She compared the transformation of Al Mamzar Beach from her childhood to its current state, marveling at the city’s capacity for innovation. “Dubai constantly proves that imagination has no limits,” she remarked, referencing the successful hosting of Expo 2020 as an example of the UAE’s unique ability to celebrate diverse cultures.
Her appreciation for the UAE has intensified, particularly in light of recent regional tensions. She noted that the gratitude for safety has grown stronger among residents. “As someone who has always lived in Dubai, I would choose the UAE a hundred times over any other country,” she affirmed.
