Yas Marina Circuit Upgrades Race Control Room for 2025 Grand Prix
Major Revamp Ahead of 2025 Formula One Finale
ABU DHABI: The Yas Marina Circuit has unveiled a significant upgrade to its race control room in preparation for the 2025 Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This multi-million-dirham enhancement positions the control room as a central hub for overseeing race activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining safety for drivers, staff, and fans alike.
The revamped race control room is now among the most advanced facilities in global motorsport. “As host of the F1 season finale, Yas Marina Circuit is the stage for historic moments,” said the general manager. “This upgraded control room gives officials the technology and environment to make split-second decisions with confidence, ensuring the racing can truly shine.”
Cutting-Edge Technology for Enhanced Operations
At the core of the upgrade is a suite of smart systems tailored to increase the efficiency and adaptability of race operations. Operators now have the capability to manage a wide range of feeds—55 circuit camera inputs, timing systems, race logs, car trackers, and broadcast feeds—via user-friendly tablet control. This streamlined system allows for instant routing to any workstation monitor.
The updated infrastructure also benefits various championships and events. International racing competitions, including Formula One, can utilize the Yas Marina Circuit’s state-of-the-art capabilities without needing to transport extensive hardware. This reduces setup time, costs, and complexities associated with organizing high-profile races.
Infrastructure Overhaul for Improved Efficiency
In addition to technological upgrades, significant changes have been made to the underlying infrastructure. New underfloor cabling, concealed access panels, and integrated sound systems have enhanced the physical space, creating a cleaner and more efficient environment for event management. This meticulous design facilitates quick rigging and de-rigging between events.
During the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, 28 personnel will operate in the race control room. These team members will manage extensive operations, including real-time communications with team principals and track marshals, and analyzing vast amounts of data. The room’s theater-style tiered layout provides unobstructed views of the main display screens, while dimmable LED lighting reduces glare and minimizes eye strain.
Exceeding Standards in Motorsport Facilities
“This control room has been years in the making, and the result speaks for itself. We didn’t just meet FIA standards; we exceeded them,” stated the safety and operations director at Yas Marina Circuit. “Every detail contributes to a working environment that is tailored for the world’s premier motorsport events. It stands out as one of the most technologically advanced race control facilities globally.”
The upgraded control room made its official operational debut during the initial round of the Yas Racing Series from October 31 to November 2. As the 2025-26 motorsport season approaches, it will play a pivotal role in managing a packed racing calendar that includes the Autonomous Racing Series, Lenovo Gulf 12 hours, Asian Le Mans Series, F4 Middle East, Formula Regional Middle East, and more.
The highly anticipated 2025 Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at the Yas Marina Circuit from December 5 to 7.
