Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) delivers a harsh reprimand to the petulant king, reminding him that wearing the crown does not grant wisdom. She also acknowledges the inevitability of war, noting that “The war will be fought, many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne. The significance of Viserys’ intentions died with him.”

Both sides accept that war is the only path forward. Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) reveals her efforts to avoid conflict but now acknowledges that there is no alternative. Jace (Harry Collett) is angry about her decision to keep the meeting secret, but the time for debate is over.
The Battle
The episode culminates in a thrilling half-hour battle sequence. Dragons face off in a chaotic and destructive confrontation, ignited by Ser Criston’s ego-driven actions. Rhaenys (Eve Best) volunteers to ride Meleys, but an unannounced arrival fueled by rage and vengeance disrupts any chance for rationality. The land is left in ruins, showcasing the devastation of war.
This episode stands out as one of the best in the series so far, with its powerful depiction of war’s impact and the high stakes involved.
