In an exciting development for fans of classic children’s television, Mattel, the renowned toy company, has announced its latest venture – a feature-length animated film inspired by the beloved character, ‘Bob the Builder’.
The film, which marks Mattel’s first animated theatrical movie based on ‘Bob the Builder’, will star ‘In the Heights’ actor Anthony Ramos as the voice of Roberto, fondly known as ‘Bob’. The storyline follows Bob as he embarks on a major construction job in Puerto Rico. During his journey, Bob tackles various issues around the island, immersing himself in the rich Caribbean-Latin culture and redefining the true essence of building.
This project is the latest in a series of film and television ventures announced by Mattel, following the resounding success of the Warner Bros “Barbie” movie. The “Barbie” movie, which was the first major feature film to come from the toy company, raked in over $1.4 billion in box office sales, making it the biggest movie of 2023.
The ‘Bob the Builder’ movie is based on the early 2000’s British animated children’s series of the same name. The series, created by “PAW Patrol” writer Keith Chapman for Hit Entertainment and Hot Animation, centered on the namesake contractor and his friends, running for 12 successful seasons.
Mattel’s decision to bring ‘Bob the Builder’ to the big screen is part of its broader strategy to leverage its popular toy lines for film and television projects. Other upcoming projects include the Netflix animated series “Masters of the Universe: Revolution,” centered on Mattel’s “He-Man” franchise, and a live-action “Polly Pocket” film.
With the ‘Bob the Builder’ movie, Mattel aims to introduce the character to new audiences, while also reigniting the nostalgia for those who grew up watching the series. As the anticipation builds, fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting Bob’s big-screen debut.
