Netflix has unveiled the trailer for the highly anticipated film adaptation of Uglies, based on Scott Westerfeld’s popular science fiction book. The film stars Joey King as Tally Youngblood, alongside Chase Stokes as Peris, Keith Powers as David, Brianne Tju as Shay, and Laverne Cox as Dr. Cable.

Set in a futuristic world, Uglies follows Tally Youngblood as she eagerly awaits her 16th birthday to undergo a cosmetic procedure that transforms citizens into flawless, model-like versions of themselves. This is a rite of passage for all city-dwellers, and Tally believes that becoming “pretty” will change everything for her.
However, Tally’s perception of beauty and society is challenged when her friend Shay introduces her to a new way of living. Shay’s resistance to the cosmetic procedure and her connection to a rebellious group known as The Smoke forces Tally to confront the reality of the world she lives in.

The trailer highlights themes of conformity, beauty standards, and individuality, as Tally navigates the societal pressure to undergo the transformation. The film presents a dystopian society where physical perfection is mandatory, and those who refuse the procedure are seen as outsiders.
