The Scary Movie Franchise Returns
The Scary Movie reboot, initially announced at CinemaCon, brings back the iconic Wayans brothers — Marlon, Keenen Ivory, and Shawn — for the first time in 18 years. Known for their satirical take on horror, the Wayans will write and produce the new film, which is set to start shooting next year for a theatrical release.
Original Creators Reunited- Wayans Brothers
The franchise’s first two films were created by the Wayans, with Keenen Ivory Wayans directing and Marlon and Shawn Wayans co-writing and starring. Miramax Motion Picture Group President Becky Sloviter will oversee the project, with Paramount Pictures handling the worldwide release through their first-look deal with Miramax.
A Box Office Giant Returns
The original Scary Movie series grossed over $896 million worldwide across five films, with the first installment (2000) breaking records for R-rated horror. Jonathan Glickman, Miramax Boss, expressed excitement over the Wayans reunion, highlighting the “unique comedic vision” they bring.
Excitement from the Wayans
The Wayans brothers shared their enthusiasm for returning to a franchise they first launched over two decades ago, with hopes of recreating the laughter that Scary Movie brought to audiences. Marlon Wayans is also set to star in Justin Tipping’s HIM next year, produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, while he continues his Wild Child Tour across the U.S.
